To some people, praying is as simple as ABC. Ask them and they will tell “I just pray”. However, there are some people out there who find praying a hard task. These people find it very hard to pray let alone making it a regular activity. They could be very determined to start praying but as soon as they start, they forget. If you are one of these people and you really want to start and make your prayer regular, then you dream is about to come through.

Because we understand the importance of prayer, and the fact that it is not an easy task to most people, we find it very important that we teach you how to start your regular prayer. Keep in mind that “a journey of a thousand miles starts and one step”.

Attach some importance to the prayer

First of all, you need to understand that prayer or praying isn’t a joke. It is one of the things that you need to attach great importance to. One of the reasons that we fail in making our prayers regular is because we don’t give it the seriousness that it deserves. Taking your prayers seriously is the first step into knowing how to start your regular prayer.

Put it on your schedule

If today you were to book an appointment with the president or any high profile officer of the government and be lucky to get the appointment date, would you not put it on your schedule? God is more important than anyone and anything in this world. It is, therefore, important that you put the prayer in your schedule lest you easily forget it. Prayer is a means of meeting and communicating with God. Through prayer, you will who your God really is, His plans for you and what He expects from you. You need to kindle some light in your spiritual life and when you pray, remember to pray from your heart.

Prioritize the prayers

It isn’t enough to just put your appointment with God on your schedule; you need to make it a priority. The main reason why you could fail to jump start your regular prayer is failing to prioritize it. Sacrifice some time to spend with your God. It doesn’t matter how busy you are. There is that one silly activity that you don’t actually need in your life. Remove it and use that time for prayer.
Once you have made it a priority, it is now time set aside some few minutes for the prayer. For a start, you could do with 10-15 minutes. Just 10 minutes of the 24 hours that God has given you will do you no harm or delay; instead, it will bring a great difference in your life.

Resetting once schedule may be a little difficult. To do so, you need to understand the value of prayer. There then, will you be able to add it to your timetable.

Starting to pray

When you start praying, start small. Do something that is within your reach. As stated earlier, starting can seem hard. That is why you need to start small. When you are meeting somebody for the first time you will definitely start with just a small talk. That applies also to prayer. Take three minutes, and then five, increase it to ten and with time you will gain some familiarity and there you will be, a master in prayer.

Go somewhere peaceful, a place with no disturbance at all and use this time to reflect on your spiritual life. Meditate and ask God to give you some insight; something that you really need to pray for. Ask Good to guide you in your prayer that you may see from His point of view. Ask God to help you know what to pray for. And when you pray, be specific in your prayer. As a starter, you will find it difficult to emotionally connect with large prayer concepts. Asking God to give you some insight on what to pray for is an example of a specific prayer.

Do not assume that God already knows what you need. Yes God in his greatness knows everything that you need even what you think you don’t require. The bible says, “Ask and you will be given”. God will only give to those who are ready and more so willing to receive. God loves you so much that he won’t interfere with your freedom. He will only give you what you want when you ask for. Pray for your specific needs. Remember to also pray for others. To help you know what to pray for, you will need to make a list of prayer items.

Action time!

You now know how to start your regular prayer. It is time to jump into action. Start your regular prayer today and do not give up no matter how hard it may seem. When you are on the verge of giving up, ask God to give you the strength. You will make it.

All the best as you begin your regular prayer life.

Be blessed.
