Oh! What a blessing to reach old age? Proverbs 16:31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.

Psalm 106:1 Praise the LORD! Oh, give thanks to the lord for He is good, for His mercy endures forever.

Most people fear old age, some wish they could remain your forever, others have even resorted to seeking injections to get rid of ‘unwanted face lines’. The truth is old age will come no matter what. The human body was not created to last forever. Remember everything that God created is good and you are His creation. You are also fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14 “I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made”. David is thankful to God on how He created him. So instead of fighting a natural phenomenon, we should gladly welcome it and be thankful to God when we reach our old age.

Is aging – the time to give thanks? Yes indeed, it is the time to give thanks to the creator for the far He has brought you. There are many who longed to reach where you are in terms of age but they never made it. Their time to depart in from this world came too soon. Yet, you yourself are still alive. Is that not worth being grateful to your God? In Isaiah 46:4 God assures you of his care even during your old age. He says “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you”.

Job 12:12 Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?

Old age is a time to pour your wisdom and experience to the young in the society. It is time to mentor, lead and guide the young. This is because if you grew up with Christ, knowing his true ways, keeping your ways pure you must have accumulated spiritual experience. That means you are spiritually mature. Why not thank the triune God by striving to guide the young and energetic Christians? Do not let your experience waste away; do not leave the young wants to go astray. Instead, give thanks to God by guiding the young and vulnerable generation. Be a blessing to the church.

Indeed aging – the time to give thanks is a blessing to the church. The church requires the older people, they are they are the foundation of the church because they are a source of spiritual strength, wisdom, and endurance.

You may have, during your youthful times, been so busy trying to make money and enjoying yourself. You may have failed to notice those around you, you may have missed the crucial times to serve in the church that you do not have any testimony to give right now. Your character may have been wanting during your young ages. It is true that you definitely missed some golden opportunity when you were energetic to serve your God but this doesn’t mean that it is too late. The time could be very short to make up for the lost opportunities, but you can use the little time you still have to serve in the church. You can still be a great blessing by choosing to thank your God for taking good care of you despite your erring nature.

To the youth, time shall come when your youth shall pass, you shall be old and when aging – the time to give thanks come, what will you have in store for the young people in the church and the society in general? Will it be your time to regret or to be grateful to God? Ecclesiastes 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
